"The Lord must have created Dallas on Sunday when he was resting because there are no mountains, no lakes, no water, just a flat piece of land with no reason for being."

Stanley Marcus,
Neiman-Marcus

What began "with no reason for being" has, in slightly more than 150 years, grown into the quintessential All-American city, affectionately and proudly referred to simply as Big D. Here is the guide to Dallas, as big as the city itself. Listed among Dallas's varied sites and events are:

Arthur's, which serves up a "swooningly wonderful" tenderloin fillet, according to D Magazine.
The Conspiracy Museum, located across the street from the John F. Kennedy Memorial, one block away from his assassination site.
The Big D Festival of the Unexpected, which delights visitors each April with artists displaying their works all over town.
Additional comprehensive listings of hotels, restaurants, attractions, and neighborhoods will appeal to those with a zest for the best, while histories, anecdotes, and trivia tidbits will educate and entertain.

With truly something for every tourist, business traveler, and new resident, A Marmac Guide to Dallas will prove just what the city's more than one million residents and twelve million annual visitors have known all along-that Big D definitely has a reason for being.

From Library Journal

Dallas is one of the ten largest cities in the United States, yet it is not included in the major travel guide series such as Fodor's, Frommer's, etc. (with one exception, Dallas Uncovered, Seaside Pr., 1998). This title, the eighth in the "Marmac" series on cities, helps to fill this void. Gerem (Open Road's Moscow Guide) provides detailed descriptions for all the hotels and restaurants, performing arts, special events, sights, etc., listed. In addition, it includes sections on self-guided tours, excursions outside the city, and new residents. URLs for the homepages of some listings are provided, but more could be included. This well-organized guide will aid visitors as well as new inhabitants of the city of Dallas. Recommended for all public libraries.A John J. McCormick, New Hampshire State Lib., Concord
